Julia and Isabel met in college in Tennessee but were no more than admiring acquaintances until post-grad, where they realized their shared affinity for work, travel, and fear of the sedentary. Isabel convinced Julia to join her for a 3-month gig in Maine in the summer of 2022 to open two pop-up restaurants on a small island. They spent the summer sleeping directly opposite one another in their shared room like storybook mice, boiling lobsters, searing scallops, serving tables, getting consistently marooned on a neighboring island and asking strangers for a boat ride home. From such claustrophobic circumstance rose an idea for a writing/photo collaborative featuring a wide variety of creators: artists, chefs, writers, “doers.” I Love What You’re Doing will highlight the work, process, ambition, and courage of its featured creators, share their work and encourage it.

Julia Harrison is a fake writer from Charlottesville, Virginia living in New York City. She is constantly looking for reasons not to write and not be living in New York City. She has lived in Australia, Sardinia, Tennessee, Virginia, Maine, and New York, which gives her a wacked-out cultural perspective that will occasionally reveal itself in her writing. She loves when babies drink from their little water bottles, and is afraid of the fig tree.

Isabel Butler is a photographer from Sewanee, TN and otherwise a freak for tiny, weird dogs. She lives her life traveling around, working tirelessly at any and all seasonal jobs she can find in a kitchen. She has worked in Colorado, Wyoming, Maine, and whenever she’s not cooking or photographing, she’s looking for some way to get to Hawaii, or the Canary Islands. She loves a beef slim jim and is afraid of commitment.
